First Aid 101: Burns

The Plastic Wrap Trick (Yes, Like a Burrito)

A cartoon of a man wrapping up a burn with plastic wrap

Got a burn? First, don’t panic. Second, don’t slather on butter like your grandma used to. Cool it with water (not ice), then wrap it up... in plastic wrap. Yep—like leftovers.

Why? Plastic wrap is non-stick, sterile, and lets emergency folks see the damage without peeling off skin like gift wrap. You’re not a human Hot Pocket—treat burns right, and avoid extra pain (and drama).

We’ll show you all the weird but legit tricks in our First Aid classes—including what to do with jellyfish stings (spoiler: it’s not what the internet says).
