PulsePoint and the Power of Bystander Alerts

David Mills • July 6, 2025

Imagine being able to help save a life before EMS even arrives.

That’s the concept behind PulsePoint, a mobile app that notifies nearby CPR-trained users when someone is experiencing cardiac arrest in a public place. This kind of immediate response can drastically improve survival outcomes, especially when paired with access to an AED.

According to a 2021 study published in Resuscitation, PulsePoint and similar community-based alert systems reduced time to first compression and improved neurologically intact survival rates by increasing early intervention by trained bystanders (Resuscitation, 2021).

In our CPR training at Life Squad RVA, we’ll show you how to pair your skills with tools like PulsePoint so you're ready to respond wherever you are.
